REVIEW FROM HUSH HUSH BIZ: by Caroline Russo | October 4, 2025

Last night at The Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane, I was transported into another world - a musical experience that was nothing short of magical. It wasn't just a concert; it was an atmosphere, a deep celebration of Leonard Cohen's poetic soul, brought to life by the incomparable Monsieur Camembert.
This world class ensemble delivered a performance that was rich, raw, and beautifully orchestrated. At the helm, the ever-masterful Yaron Hallis - who I had the pleasure of interviewing - led the charge with passion and reverence. A lifelong fan of Cohen, Yaron has poured his heart into this production, which is now reaching the final leg of its tour. If you want to experience something truly special, catch it before it closes - Canberra, October 17, and Sydney's State Theatre, November 8. I have no doubt those shows will sell out.
The eight piece band was simply extraordinary - each musician a powerhouse in their own right. From sax and flute to grand piano, Mexican harp, and even a Mongolian throat singer - the diversity of sound was breathtaking. Every note, every instrument, told a story.
And then came the voices - Karise Eden, Cas Eager, Tyrone Noonan, Angela Fabian - each delivering spine tingling performances that captured the emotional depth and poetry of Cohen's songs.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any butter, Act Two introduced The Midnight Choir, 48 soaring voices that elevated the entire concert into a higher realm. Despite limited rehearsal time, the harmonies were flawless - a pure fusion of soul and sound that resonated through every heart in the room.
For three glorious hours, we were taken on a journey through Cohen's words, wisdom, and wonder. It felt as though he was right there with us - channeled through the spirit and artistry of Monsieur Camembert.
All I can say is Hallelujah to this extraordinary tribute. Thank you for an unforgettable night of music, passion, and poetry. I sincerely hope this production returns - it deserves to live on and continue to grow.
